The back plate is of two pieces of faint, narrow, regularly flamed maple with similar wood in the ribs and scroll; the top of medium grain, slightly “hazel” figured spruce all covered in a robust golden coloured colophony based varnish.

This cello has a smooth, focused sound throughout its entire range and even the powerful upper register maintains a sonorous warmth.
